About The Position

This position is responsible for a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair assignments involving the use of specialized tools and equipment. The employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville and meet the needs of the organization, which may result in the assignment of other duties and take precedence over duties described in this job description. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Performs a variety of heavy manual work relating to repair, maintenance, and/or construction of the City’s infrastructure. Operates front end deck mowers, turf tractors, backhoes, dump trucks, jack hammers, chain saws, weed eaters, and other power equipment. Assists in ground and building maintenance. Operates, maintains, and repairs departmental equipment. Assists supervisors in planning and organizing work. Organizes and sets up daily work assignments. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Six (6) months experience in general landscaping and grounds maintenance work.
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license, or any valid driver’s license with ability to obtain a North Carolina driver’s license within 60 days of establishing a permanent residence in North Carolina.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction, maintenance, and repair tasks.
  • Thorough knowledge in the use of common and specialized hand and power tools required in the work.
  • Thorough knowledge of the safe use, operation, and preventative maintenance of mechanical equipment required in the work.
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments, supervisors, and the public.
  • Ability to Interact with the public in a professional manner.
  • Ability to follow all safety policies and procedures.
