About The Position

The Landscape Technician is responsible for the care and maintenance of various landscape elements, including bedding plants, woody ornamentals, turf, and interior foliage. This role involves operating and maintaining grounds maintenance equipment, training employees on its use, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of operations. The technician will manage day-to-day operations to maximize workforce efficiency, providing a safe, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing landscape. They will interact positively with guests and team members, maintain attendance, and adhere to company standards for appearance and conduct. Record-keeping, including pesticide application logs, and reporting material/equipment needs are also key duties. The role requires maintaining high horticultural standards with attention to detail and efficiency, practicing proper horticultural techniques, and supervising volunteers as needed. The technician must be able to work independently, follow instructions, attend required meetings, and perform other assigned duties. They should be able to handle high-pressure situations, resolve issues, and understand financial information and basic math functions.

Requirements

  • Training or experience in Horticulture/Landscaping required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must complete WPS training within 5 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with irrigation systems, their operation care and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic horticultural practices including plant identification, soil fertility and fertilizers, planting, pruning, irrigation, insect, and disease identification.
  • Care for and maintain bedding plants, woody ornamentals, turf, and interior foliage.
  • Clean up public parking lots.
  • Operate all equipment used in grounds maintenance and train employees in its use, general maintenance, and safety.
  • Manage the day-to-day operation to get maximum efficiency from the workforce to provide a safe, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing landscape.
  • Interact with guests and team members in a friendly, service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain regular attendance, including some holidays and weekends.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming.
  • Comply with company standards and regulations.
  • Keep accurate records, including pesticide application logs.
  • Report needs for materials and equipment to the manager.
  • Maintain inventory of small tools and supplies.
  • Maintain the horticultural standards of the company with a sense of urgency, focus, and attention to detail in an efficient and productive manner.
  • Practice proper horticultural techniques including planting, watering, weeding, pruning, pest control, dead heading, and plant identifications.
  • Operate and instruct others in the operation of all equipment pertaining to their specific job.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained.
  • Prioritize daily tasks and weekly projects with direction from the department manager or supervisor.
  • Train others in proper horticultural techniques.
  • Work with, instruct, and supervise volunteers as needed.
  • Work with little or no supervision.
  • Follow instructions, written or verbal.
  • Attend all meetings/training as required by supervisor or manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
  • Work well in high-pressure situations while maintaining composure and objectivity.
  • Listen carefully to and resolve issues.
  • Work with and understand financial information and data and perform basic math functions.
