About The Position

Performs intermediate semiskilled work maintaining flowers and shrubbery at various County facilities; performing research and selecting appropriate materials for each job assigned; recommending and implementing landscaping and installation of flowers and other plant life; watering, weeding and mulching flowers and shrubbery as needed to maintain an attractive appearance. Performs other duties as assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of Grounds Maintenance Lead.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Moderate experience in gardening and/or horticulture related experience.
• General knowledge operating hedge trimmers, garden sprayers, shoves, rakes and basic gardening tools
• Some knowledge preparing and maintaining workorders and records
• Some knowledge using Standard Office Software and Standard Office Software
• Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals
• Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages
• Ability to understand and apply governmental accounting practices in maintenance of financial records
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
• Favorable background history as determined by review of local, State and Federal records.
• Valid driver’s license in the State of Georgia with a favorable driving history (MVR).

Responsibilities

• Plants, transplants, fertilizes, applies chemicals, waters, prunes, weeds, and mulches flower beds and plant areas.
• Maintains flowers, bushes, trees, and shrubs.
• Pours, mixes, and uses fertilizer, pesticides, and other chemical materials.
• Selects the appropriate materials for each job assigned.
• Operates a motor vehicle to transport materials and equipment, as appropriate to the position.
• Prepares and/or maintains workorders and records using computers as necessary.
• Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio.
• Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent service.
