About The Position

We are currently recruiting a Landscape Project Manager to join our Landscape & Conservation branch. Reporting to the Director of Landscape & Conservation, the Landscape Project Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating all landscape construction projects that enhance The Arboretum’s grounds. This role includes both project management and team leadership responsibilities. This is an essential position which may require work during emergencies and/or outside normal work hours. The Landscape Project Manager is a full-time, exempt-level position.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or General Education degree (GED); or an equivalent combination of education, training, and education.
  • Three (3) years of demonstrated landscape construction experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Two (2) years of demonstrated supervisory experience in a leadership capacity (crew lead, foreman, etc.)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Ohio Pesticide Applicator License, CPR/First Aid certification, OSHA 10 certification, and Project Management certification.
  • Keen attention to detail and problem solving, with ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal).
  • Ability to read and interpret landscape blueprints and CAD drawings.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions.
  • Availability to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of project management software a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Create, plan, develop and execute all landscape construction projects across The Arboretum, including but not limited to hardscapes, grading, draining, irrigation and low-voltage lighting projects.
  • Create, develop and manage detailed project schedules and work plans, including project timelines.
  • Lead a high-performing team of technicians, mechanics, seasonal support staff and volunteers; ensure a positive, professional and inclusive work environment.
  • Communicate project updates and timelines to the department Director throughout execution of project, as well as conducting a walk-through at the project’s completion.
  • Monitor team budget and expenditure allocations for the purpose of ensuring expenses are within limits and/or fiscal practices are followed.
  • Serve as a point of contact for project vendors and sub-contractors.
  • Manage the project bidding process.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with Land Manager and Horticulture Manager to communicate project work plans, schedules and timelines.
  • Operate and train team members on a variety of mechanical equipment including but not limited to mowers, back hoes, bobcats, mini excavator, skid loader, chainsaws, grinder, compactor, sod cutter, plant auger, drills, tractors, dump trucks and transport vehicles.
  • Mow collection areas as needed.
  • Lead an Emergency Response Team to address inclement weather and/or emergency conditions.
  • Assist with snow, ice and storm debris; address garden hazards.
  • Assist in event preparation, including set up, tear down and staffing.
