About The Position

The Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf (BRCCED) is a provincial leader in the Deaf community. Our mission is to provide care and opportunities in a communication-rich environment that enhances the quality of life of those we serve. We are a highly motivated, collaborative team on a mission to improve the quality of life for those we serve. We take a person centered approach that aims to support and make a positive difference in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. Landscape Labourer is responsible for outdoor grounds maintenance, including grass cutting, weeding, garbage collection, gardening maintenance.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience working within the deaf community and fluency in ASL OR strong commitment to engage in professional development to build skill and knowledge in ASL, Deaf culture and supporting Deaf or hard of hearing individuals and their community
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Professional demeanor and attire
  • Motivated to learn new skills
  • Hard working and energetic
  • Able to multitask and adapt to changing priorities
  • Reliable and courteous
  • Must be within 15 to 30 years of age (as per Canada Summer Jobs requirements)
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada with a valid Social Insurance Number
  • Must be able to commit to full 9 weeks at 30 hours per week

Responsibilities

  • Mowing lawns, trimming brush, blowing, raking and picking up debris
  • Regular cleaning and maintenance of equipment
  • Weeding and mulching of gardens
  • Planting of flowers, shrubs and trees
  • Assist in loading and unloading of equipment
