About The Position

To perform a wide variety of landscape maintenance functions related to but not limited to mowing, trimming, irrigation, edging, pruning landscape install, and snow removal (in snow markets). This role involves working in various landscaping settings, communicating with lead personnel, and learning aspects of installation work. The position requires the ability to prune trees, shrubs, and vines, identify common plants, weeds, pests, and plant stress, and perform basic irrigation repairs. Equipment operation, safety practices, and professional appearance are also key components of this role.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age and meet all applicable state-mandated labor laws.
1-year experience in the landscape industry preferred.
Knowledge of Mainscape Standards of Excellence.
Ability to comprehend instructions.
Ability to use assigned tools and equipment in a proper and safe manner.
Ability to become proficient in the use of basic maintenance hand tools: leaf rake, broom, hoe, shovel, cultivator, water hose, quick coupler key, hand pruners, hedge shears, and refuse tote.
Ability to become proficient in the use of basic power equipment used for landscape maintenance: hedge trimmers, line trimmers, 21" lawn mower, and leaf blower.
Ability to learn and perform basic planting skills.
Ability to assist in keeping the job site tidy/safe.
Ability to become proficient in loading and unloading of truck and trailer used in landscape maintenance operations.
Ability to perform regular safety inspections on vehicle and trailer.
Ability to adhere to company policies, standards, and safety guidelines.
Ability to work with other employees as a team.
Ability to meet or exceed company production rates and standards set forth.
Ability to communicate with lead people regarding progress of tasks.
Regularly required to have full range of mobility in upper and lower body, including stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, squatting, and walking for extended periods.
Able to reach over head with hands and arms; climb or balance.
Able to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Able to lift, pull, and push materials and equipment.
Able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
Maintain physical fitness level necessary to complete assigned job tasks.
Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

Perform a wide variety of landscape maintenance functions including mowing, trimming, irrigation, edging, pruning, landscape installation, and snow removal.
Communicate with lead people regarding the progress of tasks.
Learn aspects of installation work and assist where needed or assigned.
Learn and perform basic planting skills.
Prune trees, shrubs, and vines to encourage healthy growth.
Identify by common names 25 frequently used plants that appear on the CLT plant list (bedding flowers, ground cover, shrubs, perennials, trees, and turf).
Perform Guy wiring of trees.
Identify, by common name, 5 frequently seen weeds in planting beds.
Recognize plant material in stress or in a problem state.
Identify by common name 5 frequently seen garden pests.
Differentiate weed grasses from desirable turf grasses in lawn areas.
Understand and complete basic irrigation repairs such as sprinkler head replacement, arc and radius adjustment, and lateral line repairs.
Operate landscape maintenance and construction hand tools and light equipment.
Report equipment in need of repair.
Identify broken, poorly running, and misused equipment, and fill out appropriate repair tags.
Understand and practice safety in all work circumstances.
Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
Maintain a neat and clean appearance and conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times.
Wear Mainscape uniforms while at work (hats, shirt, pants and jackets).
Operate push mowers, walk behind with Velke, zero turn riding mowers, string trimmers, blowers, and edgers.
Perform trash/debris pickup.
Properly set up and disperse crew members on job site.
Use ladders, gas-powered hedge trimmers, loppers/hand pruners, and chain saws for pruning.
Recognize plants that need special pruning needs/times.
Properly apply pre-emergent, selective, and non-selective herbicides.
Identify desirable plants from weeds in a specific area.
Pull and spray weeds.
Mix chemicals.
Safely lift and move heavy items.
Install plants properly.
Apply granular fertilizers after proper training under supervision.
Identify plant varieties and cultivars.
Set up crew appropriately on job site.
Understand the proper sequence of landscape installation.
Water and fertilize annual flowers and other plants.
Check plants for insects/diseases.
Perform loading and fill procedures for landscape installation.
Proficiently use and calibrate the Z-cart for fertilization.
Apply fungicide and insecticide.
Replace irrigation heads/nozzles.
Dig and clear drain/irrigation trenches.
Work with solvents and glues.
Track wires for irrigation systems.
Problem solve irrigation issues.
Use trenching equipment properly.
Safely use cleaning supplies and solvents.
Safely use snow removal equipment.
Understand safe driving techniques in snow and ice conditions.
Wear appropriate clothing for prolonged exposure to weather conditions during snow removal.
Shovel snow, lifting up to 25 pounds.
