The LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE CREW LEADER performs lawn maintenance and supervises the laborers on his/her crew according to specifications. This is a working supervisor role that includes mowing, mulching, planting sod, irrigation, and spraying as needed. The Crew Leader ensures all equipment is loaded on the truck each morning and is responsible for inventory of the equipment and tools at the end of the day. They are responsible to check that all tools are in safe working condition before assigning to crew members, may monitor irrigation controllers, and inspect plants and turf for insects and/or disease (IPM), notifying the Foreman of issues. The role also involves monitoring time management during breaks, participating in the snow and ice removal program, and ensuring all safety equipment is on vehicles and functioning each day. The Crew Leader makes sure all crew members are working safely and using safety equipment properly. They may distribute granular fertilizers, perform on-the-job equipment training, mow, perform leaf removal, trimming, edging, and mulching. Additionally, they complete assigned reports relating to time and materials used, notify the mechanic of any vehicle problems, may operate heavy equipment (bushhogs, tractors, mowers), tag broken or unsafe equipment, operate other equipment (blowers, weed-eaters, trimmers), and keep the company vehicle clean. They also transport tools, materials, and other employees to and from job sites. Additional functions include recommending measures to improve production, equipment performance, and quality, and suggesting changes to increase efficiency. They may also train new workers.
