Landscape Construction Crew Lead
About The Position
Markstone Landscaping is a full-service, year-round landscaping company specializing in pool construction, interlock and concrete installation, maintenance, and snow operations across the GTA. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Landscape Construction Crew Lead is responsible for leading a crew on-site to execute landscape construction projects safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality. This role requires hands-on construction experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to read plans and manage day-to-day site work with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate is an experienced tradesperson who can guide a crew, solve problems on the fly, and take ownership of job site outcomes.
Requirements
- 3+ years' experience in landscape construction, with prior experience leading a crew
- Strong knowledge of grades/heights, hardscaping, grading, planting, and general site construction practices
- Ability to read and interpret site plans and drawings
- Valid driver's license required
- Ability to operate heavy/light equipment is required, truck with trailer
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding tasks
Responsibilities
- Lead and direct a landscape construction crew daily
- Assign tasks to crew members and ensure work is completed efficiently and correctly
- Train, mentor, and support the development of junior crew members
- Maintain a productive, safe, and respectful job site environment
- Read and interpret site plans, blueprints, grades/heights, and grading/hardscape drawings
- Execute landscape construction work including hardscaping, grading, planting, and related site work
- Ensure work meets Markstone's quality standards and client specifications
- Identify and resolve on-site issues, escalating to the Operations Manager as needed
- Coordinate daily crew schedules and job sequencing on-site
- Track material and equipment needs for the crew and communicate shortages proactively
- Ensure equipment and tools are used, maintained, and stored properly
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure crew compliance with site safety requirements
- Conduct or support daily safety talks/toolbox meetings
- Report incidents, hazards, or safety concerns promptly
- Communicate job progress, delays, and site conditions to the Operations Manager
- Liaise professionally with clients or site contacts as needed
- Complete daily job site documentation as required
