In a team environment or while working independently, perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the removal and transfer of solid waste in the City landfill while operating a variety of equipment and trucks. Regular attendance with the ability to work in an occupied environment, including other employees, citizens, and large vehicles. Operates a variety of machinery to move and transfer solid waste, refuse and discarded materials; operates specialized vehicles for collection and emptying of trash containers. Maintains and cleans equipment and reports mechanical defects and vehicle maintenance needs. Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries. Monitors work environment for safety and continually screens all materials at the landfill in order to identify hazardous and prohibited waste. Supports the relationship between the Town of Pecos City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff and maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information. May be required to respond after hours, including holidays and weekend, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.
