Landfill Equipment/Rail Driver
About The Position
Interstate Waste Services (IWS) is a leading provider of solid waste and recycling services in the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, with a rail-served landfill in Ohio. The Rail Driver is a critical role responsible for the safe and efficient operation of an ADT (articulating dump truck) to support daily waste placement at the landfill. This position operates in a fast-paced outdoor environment and requires a high level of safety awareness and coordination with team members and supervisors.
Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment.
- Ability to climb in and out of heavy equipment multiple times per shift.
- Ability to lift 50lbs if needed.
- Good hand-eye coordination and depth perception.
- Ability to work in loud environments with exposure to dust, mud, and outdoor elements.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate an articulating rock truck.
- Perform daily pre-operation and post-operation inspections to ensure equipment is in safe working condition, report defects, damage or maintenance needs promptly.
- Follow designated traffic patterns and maintain awareness of surrounding equipment, personnel, and road conditions.
- Communicate effectively with team and supervisors via radio to coordinate safe operations.
- Identify and respond appropriately to unsafe conditions.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance such as fueling, lubricating, and cleaning equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, inspections, and operational activities as required.
- Support additional operations as assigned based on business needs.
