About The Position

Environmental Services maintains and operates Sandpoint Landfill, located 12 miles east of Carlsbad on Highway 62/180. The Landfill Operator uses a variety of equipment and is responsible for safe, efficient material hauling and placement, equipment inspections and maintenance, and required daily paperwork. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug screening. The employee may be required to work irregular hours, attend job-related meetings, and perform other duties as assigned. The Road Managers for Carlsbad and Artesia, as well as the Sandpoint Manager, have equal authority to direct the employee’s work schedule at any time.

Requirements

• Proficiency in operating, correctly applying, and safely using hand tools.
• Proficiency in operating and maintaining trash compactors, front-end loaders, dozers, and scrapers.
• Ability to safely and efficiently haul and place various types of material using the listed equipment.
• Ability to complete equipment inspections, daily paperwork, and routine equipment maintenance.
• Ability to receive and execute directions and work as part of a crew.
• Subject to random drug screening as a safety-sensitive employee.

Responsibilities

• Operate, correctly apply, and safely use hand tools.
• Operate and maintain trash compactors, front-end loaders, dozers, and scrapers.
• Safely, properly, and efficiently haul and place various types of material using the listed equipment.
• Complete daily equipment maintenance checklists, including walk-around, pre-trip, and operational inspections.
• Complete daily Environmental Services paperwork.
• Perform routine maintenance and maintain the cleanliness of assigned equipment.
• Receive and carry out directions, and debrief on daily activities.
• Work within a crew and contribute as an integral part of the crew.
• Attend job-related meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
