About The Position

The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city. The Customer Operations Division oversees various departments including the Land Records Division, which records and maintains all official documents related to real estate. This division handles approximately 550,000 documents annually and collects over $5 billion in taxes. The Land Records Division also administers the property tax lien sale. Customer Operations is seeking a detailed-oriented, self-motivated individual to serve as a Land Records Document Examiner at the Manhattan Land Records Office. This role reports to the Assistant Deputy City Register.

Requirements

  • Permanent in the Principal Administrative Associate Civil Service title or permanent in a comparable Civil Service title eligible for a 6.1.9 title change.
  • Include Employee Identification Number (EIN) when applying.
  • Indicate permanent Civil Service title in cover letter.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty.
  • OR An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described above.
  • OR A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described above.
  • OR Education and/or experience equivalent to the above.
  • Must possess one year of administrative or supervisory experience as described above.
  • Verification of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Completion of required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Examine scanned images of Real Estate and Personal Property documents to determine compliance with statutory authority, City and Agency policies, and recording requirements.
  • Examine scanned images of Notices of Federal Liens for conformity with the lien law.
  • Conduct research to determine property ownership.
  • Review documentation to identify potential fraudulent filings and coordinate referrals to the Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
