About The Position

Land-Based Camp Outreach staff will be assisting in the development and facilitation of week-long summer day camps for youth. These camps will take place in multiple locations throughout the Qalipu First Nation territory. Staff will be required to work with young children. Candidates will be required to take part in physical activities such as hiking, running, and swimming. Assist in the delivery of various cultural education sessions for both indigenous and non-indigenous youth. Must love the outdoors as camps will take place primarily out on the land. Employees may be asked to assist with other projects within the department at the discretion of the Director/Assistant Director of the Health and Wellness Department.

Requirements

  • Students must be between the ages of 16 and 29 (inclusive).
  • Have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Students must be planning to attend full-time studies in the upcoming academic year.
  • Students must have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year.
  • Students must be a member of the Qalipu First Nation or Self-identified Indigenous Person
  • Strong working knowledge of virtual communication platforms.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • A code of Conduct and a Vulnerable Sector Query are required and must be on file prior to the start of these positions. Successful candidates must ensure that they have current copies available upon hiring.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the delivery of land-based learning and outdoor education including interpretation, instruction and supervision duties to pre-school aged children and children attending the summer camps.
  • Assisting in the development, coordination and delivery of education and child/youth special projects as identified by the Manager of Culture and Community Outreach.
  • Coordinating community engagement sessions as required
  • Providing support to related CTCD events that further the culture and heritage of the Mi’kmaq people.
