About The Position

The Lamination Technician may work in various areas of the lamination department, including rolling, prepping material, spraying, open lamination, gel coat spraying, chop gun operation, waxing, and sanding. This role is responsible for preparing fiberglass for molding and strip creation within the Lamination Department.

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift and carry/move up to 50 lbs.
• Frequent needs to: climb, crawl, push, pull, lift, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, speak, hear, visually inspect work, rotate arms at various angles, reach overhead, reach at or below shoulder level, gross and fine manipulation to operate hand and power tools.
• Ability to read levels, temperatures, and gauges.
• Ability to work in confined spaces within boats, shells, hulls, and decks.
• Work in an environment with exposure to noise (not requiring ear protection), chemicals, and dust.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, and respirators as required.

Responsibilities

• Follow proper lamination processes and procedures per SOP.
• Mix catalysts into resins.
• Saturate cloth and mats with mixtures using brushes.
• Apply layers of plastic resin to mold surfaces before placing fiberglass mats, repeating layers until desired thickness is achieved according to product standards and the plastics have jellied.
• Select precut fiberglass strips and place them onto prepared molds.
• Pat and press layers of saturated mat, cloth, and pieces of fiberglass onto molds using brushes or hands.
• Smooth out wrinkles, air bubbles, or other imperfections using hands, rollers, or squeegees.
• Maintain safety training as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
