About The Position

This position develops, implements, and educates patients, families, and staff on proper breast-feeding techniques and lactation. The RN Lactation Nurse will work in conjunction with other RN Lactation Nurses, Providers, to promote family-centered care. This role serves as a clinical expert, consultant, education leader, and liaison between the patient/family, provider, and staff. The goal is to increase exclusive breastfeeding rates through telehealth, education, awareness, and networking. The position provides research and evidence-based care to lactation consultants to drive breastfeeding success and improve the health of mother and baby, both on an inpatient and outpatient basis, as well as in the community at large. The role actively and consistently demonstrates the mission, vision, values, and guiding principles of CentraCare. Patients cared for include childbearing women and newborn infants. The position supports and implements patient safety and other safety practices as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Minnesota required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider card required per established policy required.
  • 1-2 years of nursing experience in a hospital setting with background in post partum, labor and delivery, special care nursery, or pediatrics required.
  • 3 years of breastfeeding education/instruction experience required.
  • Knowledge of nursing standards, policies, procedures, ethics, and experience in supporting nutritional needs of mother/infant.
  • Ability to understand patients' medical records, physician orders and medication orders to be communicated to the patient and hospital staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree preferred.
  • Certified Lactation Counselor Current certification (IBCLC) preferred.
