About The Position
The Lactation Consultant provides lactation consultation and education to breastfeeding mothers at Alta Bates Medical Center, regardless of age, race, religion, ability, or economic or social status. The consultant uses strong assessment and implementation skills to help each breastfeeding mother attain her individual goals.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- California Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification.
- Certified Lactation Educator (CLE) certification.
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification within two years of employment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent maternal and infant assessment skills.
- Ability to effectively prioritize work responsibilities.
- Excellent documentation skills.
- Effective teaching skills.
- Flexibility in a changing environment.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
- At least two years of experience in perinatal nursing or perinatal education.
- At least two years of experience counseling breastfeeding women.
- Experience supporting breastfeeding in a NICU.
