About The Position

The Lactation Consultant utilizes the nursing process to assess lactating mothers and their families, develop, and implement a specific plan of care that promotes optimal outcomes for the family; while meeting their educational needs. The Lactation Consultant serves as a clinical resource for healthcare professionals regarding lactation and participates in quality and process improvement activities within Lactation Services and clinical areas utilizing their services.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree BSN
• 3-5 years experience Experience as a nurse on a pediatric medical floor, pediatric intensive care unit, neonatal intensive care unit, or a mother/baby unit.
• One of the following: Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas, RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO required upon hire
• International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
• Employees must obtain International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or equivalent within 365 days
• Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire

Responsibilities

• Utilize the nursing process to develop and implement a lactation-specific plan of care for the breastfeeding / human milk feeding family to promote optimal patient outcomes.
• Meets the educational needs of mothers and their families, utilizing sound principles of teaching/learning.
• Serves as a clinical resource for the education and consultation needs of the care team.
• Participates in performance improvement activities.
