A Laborer performs recurring laboring work involving grounds, trails, roads, facilities, and developed areas. Duties include moving materials and supplies, operating tools and equipment, and carrying out basic maintenance and groundskeeping. The typical season runs from March through November, but timing may vary because of weather, project needs, or funding. Anticipated entry on duty is March 2027. The work may include digging trenches; breaking up pavement, soil, or concrete; mixing and pouring concrete or asphalt; cutting and stacking trees and other heavy materials; moving furniture and signs; painting, raking, watering, trimming vegetation, and picking up litter; loading and unloading supplies; and maintaining buildings, grounds, roads, and trails. Employees may operate and clean power equipment and hand tools, perform janitorial duties, and drive light-duty motor vehicles. The work requires moderate to very heavy physical effort, including lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds and, in some cases, carrying 80 to 100 pounds or more with assistance. Outdoor work takes place in varied weather conditions, and employees may be exposed to temperature extremes, noise, dust, dirt, and potential minor injuries. Proper safety procedures and equipment must be used. This is a seasonal position that may be filled under a temporary appointment not to exceed 1,560 hours, depending on the park and program. Employment may end at any time because of funding, project needs, performance, or other considerations. Work may include on-call, evening, weekend, holiday, overtime, or shift assignments. Government housing may be available but is not guaranteed; occupancy of government quarters may be required.
