About The Position

The Laborer assists a Foreman and skilled craft workers with assigned duties under close supervision. This is usually an entry-level position and the first step toward learning a skill. The work involves supporting waterworks and construction activities through manual and routine machine tasks, while following safety procedures and contributing to team and company goals. The position is performed outdoors in changing weather conditions and involves heavy physical activity. Manual dexterity is needed to handle items and work with the fingers and to perceive attributes of objects and materials.

Requirements

Education: Less than a high school diploma.
Ability to perform heavy physical activity and strenuous productive or technical work.
Manual dexterity sufficient to reach and handle items, work with fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.

Responsibilities

Dig, spread, and level dirt, sand, and gravel using a pick, shovel, or rake.
Lift, carry, and hold construction materials, tools, and supplies.
Clean tools, equipment, materials, and the work area.
Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials using hand tools.
Join, wrap, and seal sections of pipe.
Perform routine non-machine tasks, including removing forms, filling excavations, placing pipe sections in trenches, and assembling pipe sections.
Perform machine-related tasks such as tamping soil and jackhammering, and assist with pipe fusing.
Comply with safety policies, practices, and procedures.
Report unsafe activities to a supervisor and/or Human Resources.
Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
Provide leadership to others through example and sharing knowledge or skills.
Perform other duties as assigned.
