About The Position

The Laborer assists the Foreman and skilled craft workers in performing assigned duties under close supervision. This is usually an entry-level position and a first step toward learning a skill. The work involves routine construction tasks supporting heavy civil and geotechnical projects, including handling materials, preparing and applying materials, working with pipes, and performing manual and machine-assisted tasks. The role involves strenuous physical activity and regular outdoor work in changing weather conditions.

Requirements

• Education: Less than a high school diploma.
• Related construction experience of three or more years is preferred.
• Follow the company’s safety policies and procedures as described in its safety manual.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to reach and handle items and work with the fingers, and ability to perceive attributes of objects and materials.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical work.
• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Selected candidates must pass a drug screen; candidates selected for field positions must pass a medical exam.
• Some positions require completion of a background check.

Responsibilities

• Dig, spread, and level dirt, sand, and gravel using a pick, shovel, or rake.
• Lift, carry, and hold construction materials, tools, and supplies.
• Clean tools, equipment, materials, and the work area.
• Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials using hand tools.
• Join, wrap, and seal sections of pipe.
• Perform routine non-machine tasks, such as removing forms, filling excavations, placing pipe sections in trenches, and assembling sections of pipe.
• Perform machine-related tasks, such as tamping soil, jackhammering, and assisting with pipe fusing.
• Comply with safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report unsafe activities to a supervisor and/or Human Resources.
• Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
• Provide leadership to others through example and sharing knowledge and skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
