About The Position

We have openings for the position of Laborer I/II. You will perform manual labor in the clean-up, maintenance, repair, and construction of streets and grounds surrounding buildings and research structures. At the 805.2 level, you will also perform skilled laborer duties such as cement finishing and operating trucks, tractors, graders, bulldozers, backhoes, loaders, and other equipment used for hauling, excavating, and road maintenance. You may operate heavy equipment used in maintaining and building roads, fire trails, parking lots, and associated drainage. This position may require work at Site 300 in Tracy, California. This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work. This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

Requirements

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and/or related experience.
  • Basic skills, knowledge and abilities in skilled labor tasks and experience performing journey level skilled labor duties.
  • Experience performing routine tasks, such as preparation and cleanup of worksite, loading, unloading, pick-up and delivery of materials in a safe and controlled manner according to prescribed safety policies and procedures.
  • Experience using computers and mobile devices to write reports, complete forms, process work orders, complete training, and submit timecards.
  • Effective customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills to effectively interact with customers, coworkers, and managers at all levels.
  • Valid California driver’s license, and ability to become medically qualified to wear protective equipment, work in confined spaces, work scheduled and emergency overtime including weekends, and travel to Site 300.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills, knowledge and abilities in skilled labor tasks and experience performing journey level skilled labor duties.
  • Experience with the use and operation of heavy equipment used to maintain, repair, install buildings, roads, fire trails, parking lots, associated drainage, digging trenches for utilities, excavating for structure, foundations, hauling earth, gravel, contaminated materials, and moving or lifting heavy objects.
  • Experience in concrete finishing, including setting forms, asphalt repairs, overlays, and new construction of roadways, walkways, parking lots, and paths.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Class B Driver's License within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual labor in clean-up, maintenance, repair, and construction of buildings, streets and grounds using standard laborer tools such as power, non-power and air hand tools, generators, compressors, Aerial Work Platforms (AWP), forklifts, shovels, picks, and brooms.
  • Relocate furniture using motor vehicles and set up furniture for special functions.
  • Prepare standard reports, including equipment inventory and monthly vehicle maintenance and mileage reports.
  • Enter time daily and complete training courses using a personal computer and/or mobile device.
  • Complete tasks in accordance with Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) regulations and procedures, while fulfilling all integrated safety, security, and property management responsibilities, as appropriate.
  • Interact with personnel of all levels, including ES&H technicians, building coordinators, inspectors, and other craft personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Perform skilled labor duties in the construction, maintenance, abatement, clean-up, and repair of buildings, streets, fences, and grounds.
  • Operate heavy equipment and Class “B” and “C” motor vehicles (forklifts, street sweepers, dumpster trucks, etc.) used in the construction and maintenance of roads, fire trails, parking lots, associated drainage systems, utility trenches, and structural foundation excavations.
  • Perform concrete finishing, form setting, asphalt repairs and overlays, and support new construction of roadways, walkways, parking lots, and paths.
  • Conduct pre-inspections and ensure the safe use of plant equipment and trade tools.
  • Obtain and maintain the training, competencies, and certifications required to perform work.
  • Prepare additional reports related to permit requirements, deficiency forms, and service/work requests.
