Laborer/Horticultural Attendant
About The Position
Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Physical Plant Services is seeking a Laborer/Horticultural Attendant to maintain turf and landscapes in an assigned area of campus. This role involves duties such as mowing, string trimming, edging, blowing, pruning, mulching, weed control, and chemical applications. The position may also assist with landscape installation and planting projects. This is a career progression position where an incumbent may be hired as a Laborer and, upon meeting qualifications and demonstrating satisfactory performance, be promoted to Horticultural Attendant.
Requirements
- One year of experience or training in farming, the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping; OR Six semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to be certified through the Southeastern Defensive Driving Course.
Responsibilities
- Maintains turf and landscapes in an assigned area of campus.
- Performs turf-maintenance duties including mowing, string trimming, edging, and blowing.
- Performs landscape maintenance including pruning, mulching, weed control, and chemical applications.
- Assists with landscape installation and planting projects.
