About The Position

The Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs (LDVA) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Horticultural Attendant Superintendent to join their team at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. This cemetery spans thirty (30) acres and includes a minimum of 12,122 grave sites, serving deceased veterans and their eligible dependents. The role involves directly supervising 3 Horticultural Attendants and managing the maintenance and burial operations at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. The ideal candidate should possess competencies in accepting direction, communicating effectively, demonstrating accountability, and following policies and procedures. Requirements

  • Four years of experience or training in farming, the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping; OR Twenty-four semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the maintenance and burial operations at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.
  • Supervise and assist yard staff responsible for burials, maintenance, general repairs, and upkeep of the facility.
  • Inspect work in progress for compliance with state and federal burial standards.
  • Plan, coordinate, supervise, and assist with landscaping for facility grounds, including soil preparation, planting, and pruning trees, bushes, and flower beds.
  • Inspect equipment, buildings, and grounds to determine the need for servicing, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Assign and evaluate work performance of all subordinates under the Continuous Performance Management (CPM) system.
  • Approve and deny leave requests by tracking leave to ensure an adequate workforce.
  • Counsel and discipline subordinates as necessary.
