About The Position

The Laborer, Grounds Maintenance maintains grounds of industrial, commercial or public property such as but not limited to: buildings, camp and picnic grounds, parks, playgrounds, greenhouses, and athletic fields, and repairs structures and equipment. This role involves cutting grass, trimming hedges, pruning shrubs and trees, and applying fertilizers or insecticides. The position requires the use of various hand tools for tasks like spreading dirt, digging, erecting signs, and cleaning. It also involves lifting heavy objects, assisting higher-skilled workers, maintaining fencing, and ensuring work orders are completed accurately. The role supports the project Safety Plan and may be designated as Mission Critical, requiring personnel to meet safety and security needs during lockdown conditions. Additionally, the position may be part of an emergency management/response team and requires operating equipment in accordance with EM 385-1-1.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid state driver license OR commercially licensed (CDL)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with hands and knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and practices used in the field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved.
  • Demonstrated skill in the care and use of the tools and equipment in the trades involved
  • Ability lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum three (3) years prior experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Use of a variety of hand tools to spread dirt, gravel, or sand; dig holes and trenches; dress excavated areas; erect signs and guard rails; cutting trees, shrubs, grass, weeds, and other vegetation; and cleaning structures and equipment.
  • Lift and/or carrying of heavy objects such as riprap stone, boxes, and machinery weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Assistance of higher skilled levels by carrying materials and supplies, building simple objects and forms, and performing necessary heavy manual labor associated with the activity requiring the higher skilled levels.
  • Use of a variety of hand tools common to manual labor such as picks, shovels, tamps, wheelbarrows, chainsaws, rakes, and brooms.
  • Cleaning of equipment, buildings, recreation facilities, structures, and grounds.
  • Maintain and repairs fencing to include but not limited to: chain link and barbed wire.
  • Ensure work orders when complete are properly filled out and returned to work management.
  • Support the project Safety Plan through personal involvement in all aspects of safety, including training and attention to the adherence to safety requirements pertaining to particular trades or skills.
  • Operate all equipment in accordance with EM 385-1-1.
