About The Position

This is a seasonal position, offering winters off while benefits continue year-round. The role is responsible for completing various laborer and small equipment operation tasks to produce quality grading projects. The typical schedule is Monday - Friday 6:30 AM - 6:30 PM with two Saturdays per month, though this may vary due to weather and customer demand. Knife River is one of the 10 largest construction materials producers/contractors in the country and is publicly traded on the NYSE.

Requirements

Acceptable interpersonal communication skills
Equipment maintenance & operation experience
Grade checking and staking experience preferred
Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure, medical card and acceptable driving record

Responsibilities

Safely perform labor/operation tasks including setting and reading grade stakes, measuring distance from grade stakes, driving stakes & stretching tight lines.
Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
Level earth using pick or shovel.
Raise manhole covers.
Perform flagging duties as needed.
Operate small-powered hand tools.
Operate small equipment including bobcat, tractor, or roller or move from one site to another.
Safely and properly perform maintenance (lubricating, fueling and cleaning) and operate small equipment, such as bobcat, tractor, jackhammer, roller, pickup truck, air compressor, tractor/packer, steel drum or rubber tire roller.
Hook up and unhook small trailer to pick-up.
Fill sandbags.
Operate skid steer for cleanup of materials.
Drive truck/skid steer trailer combination to transport skid steers and other equipment and material from site to site.
Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with people under high stress situations.
Be self-motivated, a team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations & act courteous/respectful of others.
Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.
Ensure MSHA, OSHA, safety and environmental regulation compliance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
