About The Position

The Laboratory Technologist is part of the Product Development (R&D) team and also supports Technical Service, working on both new product development and active customer projects out of the Burlington lab. This is an on-site position. Day to day, the work is a mix of formulating experimental emulsions, running analyses and application testing on a range of instruments such as TGA, DSC, particle sizing, optical microscopy, surface tension and writing up findings that feed back to internal teams or customers. Some projects are weeks long; others need a turnaround in days. It's a hands-on bench role with room to specialize over time. Salary range for this position is $55,000-$60,000 based on qualifications and experience.

Requirements

  • 2- or 3-year college diploma or 4-year undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent hands-on experience from a lab setting
  • 1–2 years of lab or production experience in a chemistry, chemical engineering, chemical industry setting or similar discipline. Equivalent educational experience will count towards the years of experience (such as, CO-OP experience or experience while in school with chemistry, chemical engineering, or related discipline).
  • Proficiency in standard laboratory techniques, including weighing, pipetting, and measurement of pH, viscosity, and solids content.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to verifying work and maintaining accurate records.
  • Self-starter mindset, ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment in seeking guidance when appropriate.
  • Working knowledge of basic statistics

Responsibilities

  • Supporting projects by formulating and preparing experimental emulsion products and conducting the testing required to evaluate performance, working towards the development of products for new and existing applications.
  • Support Technical Service projects by performing, analyzing, and reporting experiments, working with the Manager of Product Development and Product Development Chemists to meet critical deadlines and support the Sales and Business Development teams.
  • Operate analytical equipment in the laboratory, with the expectation of becoming an expert in sophisticated instruments such as particle size analyzer, TGA, DSC, FTIR, optical microscope, and surface tension analyzer; training will be provided.
  • Perform standard wet-chemistry techniques, including weighing, pipetting, and measurement of pH, viscosity, density and solids content.
  • Prepare technical reports summarizing laboratory work, results, and conclusions for internal and customer-facing use.
  • Maintain accurate and reproducible records in the ELN and LIMS to ensure traceability and continuity of work.
  • Uphold laboratory health and safety standards by following protocols, identifying hazards, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
