About The Position

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join their Materials Testing Building & Construction team in York, PA. This role involves performing tests on a variety of building products and components, with potential opportunities for travel. Intertek's Building and Construction division offers innovative product and project solutions and provides assurance, testing, inspection, and consulting services to ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of developments, assets, and facilities. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • General construction/carpentry knowledge and experience using power tools.
  • Technically competent to understand and communicate test procedures, specifications, and results.
  • Possess a mechanical aptitude.
  • Physical ability to routinely lift 50 pounds.
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, crouch, bend, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, push, pull, etc. as required to perform job duties.
  • Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong communication skills – both written and oral.
  • Good computer skills using Word and Excel.
  • Technical competence for use of lab equipment and tools.
  • Ability to travel as business needs dictate, 15% of the time or less.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record required.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in a technical field desired, or equivalent related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Management of all assigned jobs, including proposals, job progress, job notifications, invoicing, documentation of test data, reporting, and job closure.
  • Learning and applying test standards and procedures (e.g., AAMA, ASTM, NFPA, etc.).
  • Reviewing and understanding contract requirements, and documenting any deviations with authorization.
  • Coordinating test schedules with equipment availability and other department testing.
  • Setting up, mounting, and performing standard and advanced/specialty tests on building products according to specifications and procedures.
  • Analyzing test results and writing accurate and concise test reports summarizing procedures and findings.
  • Communicating with clients regarding test preparation, procedures, and results.
  • Writing test reports and assisting department administration with invoicing for assigned projects.
  • Maintaining tools and equipment, inventorying supplies, and ensuring the cleanliness of the work area.
