About The Position

Novelis is a global leader in aluminum recycling and rolling, providing sustainable aluminum solutions for aerospace, automotive, beverage packaging, and specialty markets. With headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, Novelis operates 32 facilities across 4 continents and employs approximately 13,000 people. The Guthrie, Kentucky facility is Novelis' newest, focusing on heat treatment and pretreatment lines for the North American automotive market, and will employ 125 residents. The Guthrie team collaborates with local educational institutions and community organizations.

Requirements

  • Must be willing to work 8-hour or 12-hour, rotating shifts as well as holidays and weekends if business needs require.
  • Ability to work effectively without close supervision in a challenging environment while maintaining a positive outlook and striving for world-class process improvements.
  • Adequate computer skills to navigate lab software and communicate throughout the organization.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk and stand for most of the shift.

  • Experience in a lab setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt, accurate test data to support operations.
  • Provide real-time feedback to manufacturing for adjustments based on sample analysis and mechanical testing results.
  • Develop reporting tools to simplify complex data.
  • Communicate Laboratory results to Quality Engineers, Product Engineers, and other Novelis personnel.
  • Interact with vendors and maintenance personnel to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
  • Operate sample inventory management, sample preparation, and sample testing equipment.
  • Participate in reliability issues related to Laboratory equipment.
  • Assist in implementing training plans, developing training documentation, and training new Laboratory Technicians.
  • Support audits and findings gap closure.
  • Address and resolve certification issues.
  • Participate in problem-solving resolution and verify/validate corrective actions.
  • Actively support EHS policy, align decisions and actions with the EHS management system, and integrate EHS performance into daily operations.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the plant’s Quality System.
  • Engage in continuous improvement activities to create a safer and more efficient Laboratory environment.
  • Perform other tasks as required by the Process Engineering team.
  • Use necessary instruments and tools for tasks including daily, weekly, monthly PM's of quantometers and milling machines.
  • Perform chemistry tests.
  • Conduct daily tests on caster cooling water, make-up water, and city water.
  • Perform Limca inclusion tests.
  • Perform Prefil-podfa inclusion tests.
  • Prepare met lab samples for inclusion analysis.
  • Prepare inclusion reports with the working casting process engineer.
  • Conduct daily ingot inspections.
  • Perform scrap melt loss tests.
  • Perform scrap moisture tests.
  • Perform scrap organic and dust tests.
  • Conduct hardener inspections.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions for necessary lab supplies and equipment.
  • Record test results accurately and on time.
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable.
