About The Position

The Laboratory Technician, Borger Refinery performs various chemical analyses in a quality control laboratory. This position works a 12 hour rotating shift, including days, nights, many weekends, and some holidays. Hourly pay for qualified Laboratory Technicians ranges from $38.76 to $41.29. Benefits include a 7.5% annual cash bonus target, 8% 401k match, and Cash Balance Account pension. This position requires the successful completion of an online assessment. Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willing and able to perform/comply with the following, with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Work a 12-hour rotating shift, which includes some weekends, holidays and nights
  • Work overtime
  • Assume on-call responsibilities
  • Work in enclosed spaces, such as tanks and silos
  • Work near large, hot, high-speed machines
  • Climb up to 250 feet in height
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Work with chemicals, including acids, bases and solvents
  • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)
  • Maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
  • Perform firefighting duties
  • Work outside in harsh weather conditions
  • Work with petroleum products that are under high pressure and high temperatures
  • Evacuate in a safe and timely manner in the event of an emergency
  • Read at a level to understand written safety procedures, work procedures, work permits, instruction manuals
  • Learn computer software associated with process operations
  • Operate standard petroleum laboratory testing instrumentation and test equipment
  • Follow both Standard Laboratory Procedures (SLPs) and American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) procedures
  • Perform minor instrument maintenance

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Chemistry/Chemical Technology or another related Science discipline
  • 3 or more years of experience as a Laboratory Technician or Chemist
  • 3 or more years of direct experience working in a refinery and/or chemical industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (other Physical Science disciplines considered)
  • Knowledge of CFR Engines and willingness to perform minor maintenance

Responsibilities

  • Run chemical analyses on a variety of products in a quality control laboratory
  • Climb stairs on storage tanks, as well as bend, kneel, squat, and occasionally lift heavy articles
  • Maintain a safe work environment, sample and handle chemical materials, and perform maintenance on laboratory equipment
  • Work directly with plant engineers, operations and maintenance personnel, and other lab personnel in a team environment
  • Enter and retrieve data from computer systems
  • Use fire prevention equipment when necessary, along with many other general maintenance activities
