About The Position

Under limited supervision, provides technical support for experiential education courses and research projects at IRCAD North America. This role involves preparing the laboratory environment, conducting technical procedures, assisting with animal research (anesthesia, surgery, postoperative care), handling tissue samples, monitoring inventory and equipment, and maintaining research data and tissue records. The technician will also operate necessary equipment, assist in maintaining the physical environment, and perform surgical procedures and data collection for GLP research studies, while adhering to DEA regulations for controlled substances.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree required or its equivalent in experience.
  • 2 years experience in veterinary medicine, research, medical education, or healthcare field required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage animal anesthesia, surgical equipment, practice radiology safely, and provide excellent customer service to clients.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares laboratory environment for professional education courses as outlined by course coordinator and laboratory leadership.
  • Coordinates on site with course coordinator to ensure the laboratory environment best suits their needs.
  • Communicates any requested changes to leadership and other teammates.
  • Conducts technical laboratory procedures and animal research anesthesia, surgery, and postoperative care to a high level.
  • Assists other technicians with complex procedures.
  • Receives, prepares, positions, and performs disposition of all tissue samples and models.
  • Assists in the monitoring of research laboratory inventory and equipment and taking appropriate actions.
  • Assist in maintaining the storage of research data and tissue records.
  • Follows all DEA regulations related to the receipt, storage, use, destruction, and disposal of controlled substances.
  • Operates all equipment and devices necessary for the performance of research procedures including radiographic and instrument processing equipment.
  • Assists other technicians in operating equipment.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the physical environment.
  • Performs all necessary surgical procedures, data collection and storage for all GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) research studies.
