About The Position

As a Laboratory Technician at IDEXX, you will perform laboratory testing that aids veterinarians in diagnosing and treating pets. This position is casual/per diem, meaning scheduling will be on an as-needed basis with potentially varying shifts and hours based on business requirements. Reliable and dependable attendance is essential.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests.
  • Experience operating laboratory equipment such as microscopes, pipetting, and/or clinical diagnostic analyzers.
  • Positive attitude and energy.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Concentration on details and ability to work reliably and precisely.
  • Strong sense of team spirit and responsibility.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements: standing and sitting for extended periods, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision abilities (close, color, depth perception, ability to adjust focus).
  • Awareness of potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals.
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • A 2-, 3-, or 4-year degree in a Science-related field is preferred.
  • Experience as a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory analyses and tests using automated analyzers, microscopes, and other diagnostic tools to diagnose animal illnesses, injuries, and diseases.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal, or pet biopsy samples.
  • Set up, run, read, and release lab test results according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Specialize in one or more areas such as Hematology (testing blood cell components, microscopic evaluation), Chemistry/Endocrinology (testing blood and body fluids), Urinalysis (analyzing urine components), Cytology (processing samples for microscopic examination), Immunology/Serology (detecting viral and bacterial diseases), or Patient Sample Management (receiving, preparing, and accessioning samples).
