Laboratory Technician II - Anatomic Pathology
About The Position
The Department of Pathology is seeking a Laboratory Technician II to, under general supervision, perform difficult technical procedures and allied duties related to the function of a service laboratory, and maintain the laboratory area and equipment. This role involves a variety of laboratory tasks including processing specimens, computer/clerical duties, routine lab maintenance, and supply distribution. This is a 100% time position, Monday – Friday, with 8-hour shifts scheduled between 0500-1930, based on the needs of the lab. The Department of Pathology is part of UI Health Care, a comprehensive health sciences center serving Iowa, the region, and referred patients nationally and internationally. The Clinical Laboratories are recognized for providing outstanding and comprehensive patient care, with services among the best in the country. The department also participates in educational programs for medical students, clinical laboratory scientists, and biomedical scientists.
Requirements
- Two years of related laboratory experience, including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, or
- Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification, or
- Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years.

Responsibilities
- Delivers completed cases to appropriate personnel in the department of anatomic pathology (match-up).
- Maintains Hematoxylin and Eosin automated stainer.
- Files paraffin blocks and unstained slides.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills.
- Performs other projects and tasks as assigned.
