About The Position

The Department of Pathology is seeking a Laboratory Technician II to perform difficult technical procedures and allied duties related to the function of a service laboratory, and to maintain the laboratory area and equipment. This role involves performing a variety of laboratory tasks related to processing specimens, computer/clerical duties, routine lab maintenance, and supply distribution. The position is Monday – Friday, 0930-1830. The Department of Pathology is part of UI Health Care, a comprehensive health sciences center serving Iowa and the region, as well as patients from the United States and overseas. The Clinical Laboratories are recognized for providing outstanding and comprehensive care, with services that are among the best in the country. The department participates in educational programs for medical students, clinical laboratory scientists, and biomedical scientists.

Requirements

• High school plus two years of related laboratory experience, including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, or
• Certified laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification, or
• Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years.

Nice To Haves

• MLA(ASCP) certification or eligible.
• Biological science coursework, i.e., Anatomy, Biology, etc.
• Medical Terminology

Responsibilities

• Accessions, handles, and triages specimens for Surgical Pathology.
• Uses laboratory equipment.
• Demonstrates effective communication skills.
• Follows department and laboratory policies.
• Prepares reagents and chemicals.
• Performs other projects and tasks as assigned.
