About The Position

The Laboratory Technician II – Analytical Geochemistry will perform the routine duties necessary to ensure that laboratory services are of the highest quality, and to ensure that such services are provided in a timely, safe, legal, and ethical manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Chemistry, Petroleum Engineering, Geosciences or extensive years of relevant work experience.
  • 3+ years prior laboratory experience is required.
  • Familiarity with GC, GC-MS, GC-FID, GC-SCD and GC-TCD operations and/or HTGC, HPLC.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform unassisted routine maintenance of the GC systems.
  • Possessing a mechanical aptitude.
  • Exposure to data acquisition software required.
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation for crude oil characterization; Karl Fisher, IFT, MW, SARA, extractions.
  • Very good knowledge of MS Excel for processing data files.
  • Positive attitude.
  • High tolerance for job pressure.
  • Able to multitask on several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability for working and communicating with persons of diverse personalities and backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of macro as it applies to Agilent Chemstation is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, examine, and record through a log-in process, inbound items for testing.
  • Deliver test samples to the sample staging area.
  • Monitor the availability of the supplies needed for the testing processes, and to make any needs for such supplies known to Laboratory Management.
  • Prepare samples and quality control specimens, to prepare and standardize reagents and solutions, and to calibrate equipment needed for the testing processes.
  • Perform testing of samples and quality control specimens using specified methodology.
  • Verify and communicate the results obtained, and to make the appropriate entries into instrument logs, control charts, calibration records, laboratory worksheets, and any other media, whether print or electronic, required to ensure the validity and traceability of the information.
  • Maintain documentation, equipment, and work areas in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Assist in the training of less experience employees.
  • Carry out the above responsibilities, and all others which may be assigned, in a manner demonstrating support for and adherence to the Company’s Safety Policy and Procedures, Quality Policy and Procedures, Ethics Policy, Environmental Management System, Vision and strategy, and to exercise good judgment, commons sense, and diplomacy in so doing.
