Laboratory Technician Assistant 2 PSC
About The Position
Inova OB/Primary Care Offices is seeking a Laboratory Technician Assistant 2 PSC to support laboratory services at its Gainesville, Virginia location. This part-time day-shift position is scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The role prepares, stores, and packages specimens according to laboratory protocols to preserve their integrity and quality. It also includes patient registration, billing, test-order procedures, specimen collection and labeling, and customer service. The technician works cooperatively with Inova coworkers, physicians, office staff, care facilities, and government facility staff to support effective operations and working relationships.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of phlebotomy training, with a completion certificate from a phlebotomy program or another allied health training program such as Medical Assistant, Medical Lab Technician, or Medical Technologist.
- One year of experience in a Patient Service Center environment, or at least six months in an Inova Patient Service Center. This requirement may also be met by successfully completing the Inova Phlebotomy School.
- Basic Life Support certification within three months of hire.

Responsibilities
- Manage specimen preparation, storage, and packaging for transport according to laboratory protocols, preserving specimen integrity and quality.
- Communicate effectively and cooperate with Inova coworkers, physicians, physician office administration and staff, care facility staff and leadership, and government facility staff and leaders.
- Perform patient registration, billing, and test-order procedures accurately and efficiently to ensure correct testing, reporting, billing, and regulatory compliance.
- Collect specimens properly and promptly, confirm patient identity, use appropriate tubes and venipuncture or capillary techniques, and label specimens accurately according to Inova policy.
- Provide excellent patient and customer service using AIDET principles and ensure technical information and directions provided to customers are correct and appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
