Laboratory Technician Assistant 2 PSC
About The Position
Inova OB/Primary Care Offices is seeking a Laboratory Technician Assistant 2 PSC to work part-time on a day shift, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at its Ashburn, Virginia location. The role supports laboratory testing by handling specimens and performing patient service center procedures while providing excellent patient and customer service. The position requires completion of phlebotomy training or an eligible allied health training program, along with qualifying patient service center experience or successful completion of the Inova Phlebotomy School. Basic Life Support certification is required within three months of hire.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of phlebotomy training, with a completion certificate from a phlebotomy program or another allied health training program such as Medical Assistant, Medical Lab Technician, or Medical Technologist.
- One year of experience in a Patient Service Center environment, or at least six months in an Inova Patient Service Center; this requirement may also be met by successfully completing the Inova Phlebotomy School.
- Basic Life Support certification within three months of hire.

- Knowledge of specialty tests ordered by physicians and nurse practitioners.

Responsibilities
- Prepare, store, and package specimens for transport according to laboratory protocols to preserve specimen integrity and quality.
- Communicate and cooperate effectively with coworkers, physicians, office staff, care facility staff, and government facility staff and leaders.
- Perform patient registration, billing, and test-order procedures accurately and efficiently to support correct testing, reporting, billing, and regulatory compliance.
- Collect specimens properly and promptly, confirm patient identity, use appropriate tubes and venipuncture or capillary techniques, and label specimens accurately according to Inova policy.
- Provide excellent patient and customer service using AIDET principles, ensuring technical information and directions provided to customers are correct and appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
