About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, Student Health Services is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Laboratory Technician 1, Medical Assistant who thrives in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment. This position does not offer layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. The Laboratory Technician 1, Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring smooth patient flow and high-quality care by accurately entering chief complaints, vital signs in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). This role includes performing in-house CLIA-waived tests such as COVID tests, pregnancy tests, urinalysis, strep tests, and mono tests. This position assists with medical procedures, administers medications, and provides immunizations as ordered, following strict protocols. Communicating results and follow-up instructions with clarity and empathy is essential to support patient understanding and satisfaction. Additionally, the position adheres to state and federal laboratory guidelines, OSHA, infection control, and bloodborne pathogen standards. It also involves maintaining medical equipment, ensuring proper usage, and assisting with training laboratory personnel.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two (2) years of laboratory experience performing various laboratory procedures; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The ability to obtain a State of Nevada Office Laboratory Certification.
  • A valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Responsibilities
