About The Position

Applus+ QPS is seeking a Laboratory Technician I to join our Toronto laboratory team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work and is looking to build a career in product testing, engineering support, and laboratory operations. In this entry-level role, you'll work alongside experienced laboratory professionals to conduct mechanical and electrical testing, collect and document results, maintain equipment, and support a safe and organized lab environment. We provide training, mentorship, and opportunities for growth as you develop your technical skills and gain exposure to a wide range of products and testing methods.

Requirements

  • Training, education, or experience in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with standard software applications.
  • Experience using hand tools and basic shop equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Diploma, certificate, or associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience working with mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Experience in a testing laboratory, manufacturing, technical, or product development environment.
  • Experience preparing technical reports and managing test data.
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing equipment and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and perform standard mechanical and electrical tests under the guidance of senior laboratory staff.
  • Assist with more advanced testing activities and projects.
  • Prepare samples according to established procedures and specifications.
  • Document test results accurately and maintain required records.
  • Learn to interpret test specifications and acceptance criteria.
  • Support the repair, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks, test records, and technical reports.
  • Help keep the laboratory clean, organized, and operating efficiently.
  • Operate basic shop equipment and hand tools safely and effectively.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and laboratory team members.
  • Follow all safety procedures, quality requirements, and company policies.
  • Report quality concerns or nonconformances as appropriate.
  • Coordinate workload priorities and communicate testing progress and turnaround times.
  • Cross-train in other areas of the organization as opportunities arise.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
