About The Position

Inova Fairfax Hospital is hiring a full-time, day-shift Laboratory Technical Specialist for the Inova Blood Bank team. The position works Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The specialist supports laboratory testing by ensuring specimen quality, operating laboratory systems and methodologies, and reporting clinical data accurately and efficiently. The role also involves following regulatory standards and patient and donor identification and labeling protocols, preparing and distributing specimens, and cooperating with team members. Additional duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities

• Recognize pre-analytical factors that may adversely affect patient results and ensure quality specimens for laboratory testing.
• Operate systems and methodologies to produce timely, accurate data for patients, quality control, and proficiency testing.
• Report clinical data accurately and efficiently.
• Demonstrate operational knowledge and adhere to regulatory standards as part of departmental development.
• Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with team members to optimize job performance and foster working relationships.
• Follow standard protocols for patient and donor identification and specimen and blood product labeling, including final verification.
• Prepare and distribute specimens to departments according to specimen requirements and delivery priority.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
