About The Position

The Laboratory Tech Inspector performs and documents the results of the specialized testing performed on products and processes in the manufacture of product for the Aerospace Industry. They will perform calibration of special equipment used in testing and product processing. Founded in 1849, Ducommun is the oldest company in California. Starting as a hardware supply store during the California Gold Rush and eventually assisted in the birth of the aerospace industry in Southern California by providing aircraft aluminum to early aerospace pioneers like Lindbergh, Douglas and Lockheed. Today Ducommun is a global provider of innovative manufacturing solutions for customers in the aerospace, defense and industrial markets. We specialize in electronic and structural systems, producing complex products and components for commercial aircraft platforms, mission-critical military and space programs, and sophisticated industrial applications. Our facility in Coxsackie, NY manufactures large, complex contoured structural components and assemblies for aerospace and military applications. Our integrated processes include stretch-forming, thermal-forming, chemical processing, precision fabrication, machining, finishing processes, and integration of components into subassemblies.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university; or two to three years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, common fractions and decimals, and to use ratios and percentages.
Ability to present data using MS PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
Must be willing and able to communicate professionally to individuals, in a group setting, across all organizational levels.
Team-oriented with an understanding of Continuous Improvement initiatives.
Interprets and explains inspection criteria.
Ability to use a variety of precision measuring tools.
Ability to read, understand, edit and create Standard Operating Procedures.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
The employee frequently is required to stand and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

Conducts periodic (daily, weekly, and monthly, or as otherwise required) checks on all Manufacturing Controlled Process as specified in internal procedures.
Makes the necessary allowable adjustments to the Manufacturing operating process to maintain the processes within acceptable limits.
Identifies and reports any controlled process that is discovered to be operating outside of the allowable operating limits to the Quality Manager.
Works with Cell members to resolve issues, and problems, including safety concerns, with the daily operation of special processes.
Works with Cell member to improve the equipment and/or Process to increase the efficiency of the existing special processes, which are performed in a Cell.
Aides in the development of the new Quality procedures to support the implementation of new processes at Dcuommun or in the Cell.
Trains others on the proper method for the calibrations of tools used in Cell.
Maintains Master Calibration information records for all inspection hand tools in the training database.
Monitors consumables used in the laboratory, obtains quotes, and submit requisitions to maintain stock as needed.
Coordinates calibration and testing services performed by outside contractors and interprets and documents the results.
Prepares, processes, and tests material samples for initial and periodic process qualification.
Performs metallographic inspection for lot acceptance testing to support Manufacturing.
Investigates test failures and documents associated root cause/corrective action activity.
Interacts with auditors from customers and industry organizations which evaluate Company processes and participates in internal pre-audit assessments.
Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
Must be willing and able to work overtime as necessary.
Acceptable attendance is an essential function of the position.
Performs other duties as assigned or required by the position.
