This position is responsible for the daily direction of the Lab Analyst(s) and Quality Inspector. Such leadership will be in accordance with the vision for safety, quality and efficiency as laid out by the Lab Supervisor. Additionally, the Laboratory Team Lead will perform routine analyses and support implementation of new analytical methods to the Quality Department. The incumbent must exercise extreme care in laboratory work and keep detailed, clear, and accurate records of all laboratory work performed. This position is also responsible for continuous improvement in analytical techniques and methods and for ensuring that all technical training requirements are supported by the current, accurate policies and standard operating procedures. The position is also responsible for assisting with the development, implementation, and sustainment of Lean/Continuous Improvement initiatives to support the site’s Manufacturing Excellence journey.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related field with 1-3 years of experience.
Knowledgeable in the areas of chemical analysis, quality systems, and manufacturing processes.
Flexible, self-motivated, and able to demonstrate the ability to work on an independent basis.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e. Excel, Word, & PowerPoint).
Good communication skills with ability to write detailed documentation and train Quality staff.
Capable of working as a team member with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledgeable in the areas of chemical analysis, quality systems, and manufacturing processes.
Excellent organizational skills with emphasis on accuracy and detail.

Nice To Haves

Experience directly supervising and managing the day-to-day activities of other laboratory individuals a plus.
Familiarity with the automotive technical standard IATF16949 a plus.
Familiarity with ICP or XRF analysis methods a plus.

Responsibilities

Comply with all environmental health and safety, federal, state, local regulations and company policies.
Schedule and supervise Quality Control personnel and test equipment to meet production schedules and shipment schedules.
Ensure the quality of all catalytic converters produced satisfies customer requirements.
Train, coach, mentor, engage, motivate, and support direct reports in order to maintain efficiency and effective quality control of the manufacturing process.
Organize and coordinate testing of sample group testing daily.
Execute special assignments.
Coordinate inventories.
Initiate, revise, and maintain quality documentation, procedures, manuals and specifications.
Implement and coordinate quality development and improvements.
Support preparation of chemical reagents and standards necessary for analyses.
Support sample preparation and analyses of raw materials, in-process samples and finished product for physical properties and chemical constituents.
Perform non-routine analyses in support of QC functions as needed.
Implement methods and new procedures as needed.
Review analytical data for out of control conditions.
Maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation.
Maintain clear and accurate records.
Revise and maintain quality documentation and procedures.
Train new employees in methods and procedures.
Ensures proper and effective communication of all issues.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Implement changes to improve health and safety.
Manage costs to ensure effective resource use.
