About The Position

The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for maximizing human, equipment, and financial resources on a daily basis, ensuring their appropriate use. This role involves suggesting new processes and procedures to increase market share, profile, and profitability of the department and Bureau Veritas. The supervisor facilitates the production of high-quality, defensible data safely and on time, ensuring that methods in use meet current and proposed regulatory guidelines. Additionally, the role involves organizing and directing staff to maintain a good working environment and ensure continuous improvement in productivity and efficiency.

Requirements

  • B.Sc., technical diploma or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated success in the role of Senior Analyst
  • 5 years of experience in a specific environment, with two (2) years at a leadership level
  • Up-to-date knowledge of laboratory process and automation
  • Thorough understanding of Bureau Veritas’ Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Ability to assess problems and recommend solutions
  • Uses good judgment, trains and assists in resolution of employee relations issues
  • Strong computer skills
  • Good team building, training and coaching skills
  • Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and instructions
  • Detail-oriented with accurate record-keeping skills
  • Good time-management, multi-tasking and priority setting skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop staff, including recruitment, setting objectives, evaluating performance, coaching, mentoring, career path development, and ensuring adequate training.
  • Coordinate resource planning, such as identifying the need for additional staff or equipment.
  • Monitor lab supplies and equipment.
  • Develop strategic plans to prepare the department for continued growth.
  • Provide feedback during the budgeting process as required.
  • Elevate significant and complex resource issues to the Manager.
  • Develop and nurture ongoing relationships with peers in other internal departments and with customers.
  • Assist in developing business plans to increase Bureau Veritas’ profile in the region.
  • Develop and maintain a positive work environment for employees.
  • Act as a technical resource for the Manager, Customer Service, and staff.
  • Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System, and Health & Safety program.
  • Ensure employees follow SOPs and work to reduce non-conformances.
  • Provide information, instructions, and assistance to all staff to protect employee health and safety.
  • Understand and enforce the EHS Policy and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Ensure employees have proper, well-maintained equipment and any required special personal protective devices.
  • Conduct safety tailgate meetings with staff regularly.
  • Conduct weekly PPE audits.
  • Participate in monthly worksite inspections of their area.
  • Ensure hazard assessments and critical task analyses are done within their area of responsibility.
  • Monitor staff and hold them accountable for their individual safety performance.
  • Lead by example.
  • Participate, when requested, in internal and external audits.
  • Maintain training records and relevant qualifications.
  • All other responsibilities as assigned.
