About The Position

The Laboratory Quality Specialist, Pathology works with guidance from the Clinical Lab leadership team and the QA Manager to manage proficiency testing and ensure timely follow-up. The specialist compiles, monitors, and interprets quality assurance data related to departmental errors and works with staff, supervisors, managers, and pathologists to resolve cases involving non-conformances. The role also tabulates and analyzes quality data associated with non-conformances.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree.
• Two years of experience in a laboratory setting.
• NYS technician or technologist license.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Proficiency in data entry and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement methodology and practices.

Responsibilities

• Oversee proficiency testing distribution and performance, review results, and coordinate follow-up actions as necessary.
• Compile laboratory data requested for monthly quality assurance presentations.
• Track and record errors, create isolated event reports, and report incidents in the NYU Hospitals Center Patient Safety Reporting system (PSI).
• Provide timely resolution and feedback to relevant personnel regarding reported non-conformances.
• Conduct follow-up audits to assess compliance with corrective actions as requested by the Quality Manager.
• Assist with regulatory audits.
• Assist the Administrative Director and Medical Directors with requests and complete additional special projects as indicated by the Director, Quality Systems.
