About The Position

The Laboratory Operations Manager is responsible for supporting the continuous and safe operations of a BSL2 laboratory in which research is conducted with infectious agents. The Lab Operations Manager collaborates and coordinates with the scientific teams to support and ensure the execution of scientific projects and work associated with organizational objectives, including, but not limited to, wellness events, safety compliance, quality development, budget management and procurement, laboratory space management, and response planning. The Lab Operations Manager is required to regularly communicate to the Vaccine Design and Development Laboratory (DDL) team regarding laboratory and organizational activities. The Lab Operations Manager also provides direct support to the Associate VP of the DDL, and coordinates with other facility and Operations staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ of operational experience is required.
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting is required.
  • Knowledgeable of the procedures of operating a BLS2 laboratory, including Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), OSHA safety and workplace regulations, equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to advance project objectives independently and collaboratively to meet departmental timelines.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate key staff meetings.
  • Understanding of general finance and budgeting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively cross functionally and interdepartmentally, in a diverse working environment.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and act as the designated backup to Facility staff for emergency off hour calls at Laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate operational and organizational processes and activities to laboratory team and collaborate with HQ Communications to promote and support DDL scientific and strategic programs.
  • Assess and evaluate equipment and facilities functions and needs and ensure that the laboratory is equipped to safely handle chemicals and infectious agents.
  • Create and maintain annual service contracts and inventory for all scientific equipment and facilities infrastructure units. Serve as the primary point of contact for Field Service Engineers.
  • Coordinate with Facility and Operations staff and activities.
  • Establish and maintain purchasing and inventory for laboratory consumables and reagents and streamline ordering process; coordinate and submit requests for scientific capital equipment and facility related procurement; review and approve laboratory and office consumables invoices.
  • Participate in monthly budget forecasting for scientific programs in collaboration with Budget Director.
  • Chair the laboratory safety program in compliance with New Jersey and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and participate in the Quality Management Council.
  • Provide direct support to the Assoc. VP viral vaccines, managing internal and external communications, meetings, presentations, scheduling and deliverables.
  • Author and review laboratory, safety, and operations SOPs, Policies, and Guidance documents.
  • Develop and maintain business continuity, health and safety, and emergency and disaster response plans.
  • Oversee new employee onboarding and training.
  • Maintain support for Electronic Laboratory Notebooks.
