About The Position

The Department of Psychology at St. Francis Xavier University is seeking a Probationary Laboratory Instructor for a 9-month contract position. This role involves planning, preparing, and facilitating laboratory sessions, overseeing lab activities, and grading student assignments. The instructor will teach labs for Research Methods (Psyc 291) and Statistics (Psyc 292), as well as labs for core courses such as Brain and Behavior, Cognition, Developmental, Sensation and Perception, or Psychology of Behavior. The position is subject to budgetary approval and requires in-person teaching. The initial contract is from August 10th, 2026, to May 7th, 2027, with potential for annual renewal for up to two academic years before consideration for a continuing appointment.

Requirements

  • Completed an undergraduate or Master’s degree in Psychology.
  • Evidence of experience or training in Research Methods, Statistics, Brain and Behavior, Cognition, Developmental, Sensation and Perception, or Psychology of Behavior.
  • Available for in-person teaching.
  • Ability to highlight suitability for the position, including relevant training and experience, and evidence of collaboration, such as specific accomplishments contributed to as part of a team and your role in a cover letter.
  • Provide a curriculum vitae.
  • Provide the names of three references.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and facilitate labs under the guidance of faculty members and in collaboration with other lab instructors.
  • Oversee lab activities.
  • Grade student lab assignments.
  • Teach labs associated with courses in Research Methods (Psyc 291) and Statistics (Psyc 292).
  • Teach labs for a selection of core courses: Brain and Behavior (Psyc 231/232), Cognition (Psyc 221/222), Developmental (Psyc 261/262), Sensation and Perception (Psyc 298) or Psychology of Behavior (Psyc 211).
