About The Position

Laboratory District Manager Location: Michigan (Travel Throughout Michigan Required) Department: Diagnostics Employment Type: Full-Time Reports To: Director of Operations – Diagnostics Lead Laboratory Operations Across Michigan At EPIC Health, our laboratory services are essential to delivering timely, accurate, and high-quality patient care. We are seeking an experienced Laboratory District Manager to oversee the operational performance, quality, compliance, and growth of our point-of-care and non-point-of-care laboratory services across Michigan. This leadership role is responsible for driving operational excellence across multiple laboratory locations while partnering closely with the Laboratory Director, Technical Consultants, clinical leadership, and support departments. The ideal candidate is a strategic, process-driven leader with strong laboratory operations experience, a passion for continuous improvement, and the ability to lead multi-site teams in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biological Science, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration , or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of progressive laboratory or diagnostics operations leadership experience , including multi-site management.
  • Experience overseeing point-of-care and non-point-of-care laboratory operations .
  • Strong knowledge of: CLIA COLA LARA CMS OSHA MDHHS Laboratory quality systems Waived, moderate, and high-complexity testing
  • Experience managing laboratory operations, staffing, quality programs, equipment, inventory, budgeting, and vendor relationships.
  • Strong project management, analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Athena EHR, Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), point-of-care platforms, Microsoft Office , and related healthcare technologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/MT) or similar laboratory certification preferred.
  • Experience supporting multiple CLIA certificates and healthcare service lines.
  • Lean Six Sigma, project management, or continuous improvement experience.
  • Experience with laboratory growth initiatives, new service implementation, and operational expansion.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational oversight for all EPIC Health laboratory services throughout Michigan, including physician office laboratories, specimen collection sites, core laboratory operations, and referral testing.
  • Lead Laboratory Managers, Laboratory Leads, and laboratory personnel across multiple locations.
  • Standardize workflows, policies, and operating procedures to ensure consistency across all laboratory sites.
  • Conduct regular site visits, operational reviews, Gemba walks, and performance audits.
  • Partner with the Laboratory Director and Technical Consultants to support safe, compliant laboratory operations.
  • Ensure continuous compliance with CLIA, COLA, LARA, CMS, OSHA, MDHHS , and all applicable laboratory regulations.
  • Oversee quality control, proficiency testing, competency assessments, equipment maintenance, calibrations, and documentation.
  • Investigate quality events, specimen errors, and operational issues while implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain ongoing audit readiness and successfully manage regulatory inspections.
  • Oversee specimen collection, accessioning, testing workflows, result reporting, and referral laboratory operations.
  • Ensure reliable staffing, scheduling, cross-training, and operational continuity across all sites.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment uptime through preventative maintenance and vendor coordination.
  • Monitor turnaround times and ensure timely reporting of routine, STAT, and critical results.
  • Lead operational planning for new laboratory locations, expansions, relocations, and service implementations.
  • Evaluate new laboratory tests and service lines for clinical value, operational feasibility, regulatory requirements, reimbursement, and financial impact.
  • Coordinate implementation of new equipment, instrumentation, workflows, and laboratory technologies.
  • Develop project plans, monitor milestones, manage risks, and ensure successful execution.
  • Develop and monitor laboratory operational KPIs, quality metrics, workforce performance, and financial performance.
  • Manage labor utilization, inventory, supply costs, vendor relationships, and operational budgets.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency while maintaining exceptional quality and patient care.
  • Recruit, onboard, mentor, coach, and develop Laboratory Managers, Leads, and laboratory staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, leadership development, succession planning, and ongoing coaching.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with clinical operations and executive leadership to achieve organizational goals.
