About The Position

This position is responsible for the verification and optimal transport of specimens at correct temperatures to maintain sample integrity. The role involves recording and monitoring temperature ranges for various types of laboratory specimens. The courier will deliver mail and materials to clients, fill client supply orders within specified turn-around times, and enforce the laboratory specimen rejection/acceptance policy by confirming patient identification. Maintaining timeliness of assigned routes and associated timetables is crucial to ensure optimal specimen receipt and reporting. The role also includes creating and maintaining a database of stops, mileage, and times, and assisting with new hire training, safety, policies, and procedures as directed. Additionally, the courier performs basic vehicle maintenance, ensures the vehicle is kept in top operational condition and appearance, and operates it carefully. They are responsible for reporting any potential vehicle malfunctions, accidents, or issues immediately, and for reporting any medication use or illnesses that could cause impairment. Maintaining the cleanliness of vehicles is also a responsibility. The role requires the ability to speak professionally with customers, represent the company well, and escalate customer concerns or new opportunities to management. Strong organizational and critical thinking skills, along with a customer-focused mindset, are necessary. The courier will identify potential customers, communicate these discoveries to the Client Relations team, and work to improve the customer experience by solving problems and elevating concerns to management. Support to Laboratory personnel is also required.

Requirements

  • Completion of ninth grade
  • Possession of a classified driver license appropriate to the type of vehicle operated.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the verification of specimens picked up at various locations and the optimum transport of specimens at correct temperatures to maintain sample integrity.
  • Recording, monitoring, and maintaining the temperature ranges for frozen, ambient, incubated, and refrigerated laboratory specimens.
  • Delivering mail and materials to clients as designated by the supervisor or lead courier on a daily basis.
  • Filling client supply orders on a daily basis and meeting 24 hours turn-around for consumables and 48 hours for printed material.
  • Enforcing the laboratory specimen rejection/acceptance policy by confirming patient identification on specimens and requisitions.
  • Maintaining timeliness of assigned routes with associated timetables for each site to ensure turnaround times and optimal specimen receipt and reporting are met.
  • Creating and maintaining a database (provided route sheets) of stops, mileage, start and end times.
  • Assisting with new hire training, safety, policies, and procedures as directed by supervisor or lead courier.
  • Performing basic vehicle maintenance (ie: all necessary fluids, fuel, and normal lubricants kept at required operating levels).
  • Checking lights, as well as air pressure in tires, periodically.
  • Maintaining vehicle in top operational condition and appearance.
  • Operating in a non-destructive and careful manner through the utilization of primary roadways, slowing for rough roadways, railroad crossings, and construction sites, etc.
  • Adhering to posted speed limits.
  • Reporting any potential vehicle malfunctions immediately to the designated person.
  • Reporting any accident or vehicle issues immediately and completing appropriate reports.
  • Reporting to the supervisor any medication used or illnesses requiring medications that could cause drowsiness, or any other reason for potential impairment.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of vehicles.
  • Speaking conscientiously to existing and potential customers and representing the company in the most professional manner.
  • Escalating customer concerns or new customer opportunities to management.
  • Identifying potential customers they may discover along the way, and effectively communicating those discoveries to PathLabs Client Relations team.
  • Working to better the customer experience by helping to solve problems, brighten days, and elevate concerns to management.
  • Providing support to Laboratory personnel as required.
