About The Position

Perimeter College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Laboratory Coordinator for its Newton Campus. This is a full-time staff position requiring a 40-hour per week on-campus presence to support daily laboratory operations and provide direct support to instructional activities. The role involves ensuring laboratory safety, supervising staff and student workers, procuring supplies and equipment, and maintaining departmental records. The Laboratory Coordinator also supports instructional excellence by preparing labs for classes and may contribute to course design and development. This position requires regular collaboration with faculty, staff, and students, and a consistent on-campus presence.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in the assigned research area or; Bachelor's degree in the assigned research area and two years of related experience, or a combination of education and related experience.
  • Ability to trouble shoot problems and effectively communicate with direct supervisors.
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment needed for the labs, as well as how to safely use them; safety regulations, procedures & practices; current software needed for instruction.
  • Ability to lift or move equipment in the lab.

Nice To Haves

  • College teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience with setting up, maintaining and using various lab equipment.
  • Master's degree in Biology is preferred.
  • Collegiate biology teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and enforce all laboratory safety procedures.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate laboratory technicians and student workers.
  • Procure materials, supplies, and equipment necessary for laboratory operations and instructional support.
  • Maintain equipment inventories and update purchasing and ordering logs.
  • Obtain vendor quotations and maintain departmental records.
  • Ensure laboratories are properly prepared for classes.
  • Contribute to course design, development, and implementation as needed.
  • Teach up to three (3) laboratory courses per semester based on departmental instructional needs.
  • Provide instructional coverage for laboratory courses during temporary faculty absences.
  • Collaborate with faculty course coordinators to develop, coordinate, and maintain laboratory schedules.
  • Order, prepare, and maintain laboratory supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain current laboratory procedures manuals.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise student assistants and laboratory technicians.
  • Collaborate with other Laboratory Coordinators to promote consistency in laboratory operations.
  • Maintain laboratory facilities to ensure they are clean, organized, well-equipped, and in compliance with safety standards.
  • Oversee the proper storage, maintenance, and organization of laboratory materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate the identification and transfer of obsolete or unused equipment and materials.
  • Coordinate the procurement of laboratory supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Oversee the preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Report equipment failures and resolutions to the Department Chair.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for part-time laboratory instructors, providing guidance and support.
