About The Position

The Laboratory Chemist will follow defined test plans and datasheets with necessary supervision/support. This role evaluates test performance and sample operation to properly evaluate test results, records and explains test results, and completes test reports. The Chemist will serve as Lead for simple test programs as assigned with the necessary assistance, and communicates project status and results as needed. Responsibilities include defining the test plan, report completion and accuracy, meeting of agreed deadlines, and managing project related activities. The role involves examining customer samples and learning to operate appropriate tests for each case with support, and communicating with internal customers during setup and operation to ensure proper evaluation. The Chemist will direct, build and/or adapt simple test setups, sample preparations/solutions and instruments to new situations, based on test plans and instructions. This role also involves training other lab staff on these test procedures or instruments, and operating and maintaining test instruments appropriately to measure and test samples. Performing maintenance on designated test instruments and laboratory area is also required. For a single testing technology, the role integrates basic process and instruments improvements into all aspects of the job. The Chemist will communicate with management and technical staff to provide suggestions for new instruments, processes, and forms to improve accuracy and efficiencies. Understanding and following safe chemical hygiene practices, reading and following the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct, and following all physical and digital security practices are essential. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma from an accredited university through a formal program of study in Chemistry or related discipline including Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Organic/Inorganic Chemistry, Material Science but not limited to these disciplines only.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high quality and exceptional customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully partner with Engineering and other Laboratory Personnel to complete projects in a timely manner with high quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze special testing needs.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact with customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative and creative.
  • Desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite is a must.
  • Ability to incorporate automation into day-to-day testing.
