About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Chemist to join our team. This role involves hands-on analytical testing using EPA methods, operating and troubleshooting GC-MS instrumentation, and processing Tentatively Identified Compounds (TICs). The ideal candidate will have experience in a high-volume production testing laboratory environment and proficiency with Omega LIMS. You will be responsible for preparing and processing sample batches, evaluating test performance, recording and explaining test results, and communicating project status. This position also involves training other lab staff, maintaining test instruments, and contributing to process improvements. Safety and adherence to company conduct policies are paramount.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma from an accredited university in Chemistry or a related discipline (Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Organic/Inorganic Chemistry, Material Science).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high quality and exceptional customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully partner with Engineering and other Laboratory Personnel to complete projects in a timely manner with high quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze special testing needs.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact with customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative and creative.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to incorporate automation into day-to-day testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience performing analytical testing using EPA methods, including EPA 524 and EPA 625.
  • Experience with extraction techniques for BNA (Base Neutral Acid) samples.
  • Demonstrated experience operating, troubleshooting, and diagnosing issues with GC-MS instrumentation.
  • Experience processing, reviewing, and evaluating Tentatively Identified Compounds (TICs).
  • Working knowledge of Omega LIMS, including data entry, management, and data upload processes.
  • Experience working in a high-volume production testing laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical testing using EPA methods, including EPA 524 and EPA 625.
  • Conduct extraction techniques for BNA (Base Neutral Acid) samples.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and diagnose issues with GC-MS instrumentation.
  • Process, review, and evaluate Tentatively Identified Compounds (TICs).
  • Utilize Omega LIMS for data entry, management, and upload processes.
  • Prepare and process 2-3 sample batches per day in a high-volume production testing laboratory environment.
  • Follow defined test plans and datasheets with supervision.
  • Evaluate test performance and sample operation to assess test results.
  • Record and explain test results and complete test reports.
  • Serve as Lead for simple test programs as assigned.
  • Communicate project status and results.
  • Define test plans, ensure report completion and accuracy, meet deadlines, and manage project activities.
  • Examine customer samples and operate appropriate tests with support.
  • Communicate with internal customers during setup and operation.
  • Direct, build, and/or adapt test setups, sample preparations, and instruments.
  • Train other lab staff on test procedures or instruments.
  • Operate and maintain test instruments.
  • Perform maintenance on designated test instruments and laboratory area.
  • Integrate basic process and instrument improvements into daily tasks.
  • Communicate with management and technical staff regarding suggestions for new instruments, processes, and forms.
  • Understand and follow safe chemical hygiene practices.
  • Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct.
  • Follow all physical and digital security practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
